Son of Sardaar 2, starring Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur, has been postponed and fans are both curious and disappointed. Initially scheduled to release on July 25, 2025, the film’s makers have announced a new release date of August 1, 2025, a week later. No official reason has been given for the delay.
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, Son of Sardaar 2 is a spiritual sequel to the 2012 hit Son of Sardaar, which was known for its action comedy and Punjabi charm. Ajay Devgn reprises his role as the energetic Jassi Singh Randhawa, whose journey takes him to Scotland this time. The story follows Jassi as he chases love only to find himself in a hostage crisis, a mafia war and a chaotic Sardaar wedding. The film has a talented cast including Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Kubbra Sait, Neeru Bajwa, Deepak Dobriyal and Vindu Dara Singh. It also marks the last on-screen appearance of the late Mukul Dev, adding an emotional angle to the film.
The postponement was announced through a new poster by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, which said, “The laughter riot just got a new date. Son of Sardaar 2 will now release in cinemas on 1st August 2025 worldwide”. Industry insiders suggest the delay may be a strategic move to avoid a box office clash with Saiyaara, a romantic drama starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, which has been getting huge footfalls. This will help Son of Sardaar 2 to have a stronger opening by targeting a less crowded release window.
The promotions have already created a lot of buzz. The trailer released on 14th July 2025 has nostalgia mixed with fresh humour, action and drama set in Scotland. Fans are loving the chemistry between Devgn and Thakur and the music of the film, including the hits “Pehla Tu Duja Tu” and “Nach Di”. Despite the delay, the excitement is still high for this comedy entertainer produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, N R Pachisia and Pravin Talreja. Till August 1, 2025, wait for it, Son of Sardaar 2 is a laughter riot.
