Alien: Romulus, release date, trailer and synopsis

Alvarez made it clear that Alien: Romulus will work as a standalone film for anyone unfamiliar with the previous installments, while still offering an immersive experience. However, longtime fans of the franchise will be able to enjoy a richer experience, thanks to numerous connections to the other films. The director stressed that the new film will not eliminate any other films from continuity, rather seeking to integrate organically with existing events and characters.

“We went to great lengths to make sure things were canon-compliant and didn't contradict or complicate any of them,” Alvarez explained. “You'll discover a billion things that connect with the other movies story-wise, technology-wise, and character-wise.” Alvarez has in fact emphasized the attention paid to inserting references that will please true fans of the franchise, creating an experience tailor-made for them.

“The way this movie works is that if you haven't seen any of them, you're going to have a blast,” Alvarez explains to IGN. “But if you did, I guarantee you will be that person in the movie theater who won't shut up, who will be perpetually talking to the person next to her saying, 'This is from that movie and that is from this other movie, and they said this for this reason.'" The film Alien: Romulus is expected in theaters on August 16, 2024. The plot follows a group of young space colonists who, while exploring an abandoned space station, come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
