Emma Stone moved to thank director Yorgos Lanthimos and his family on stage. The challenge between Lily Gladstone and Emma Stone was a battle to the last prize. Giving the award to Emma Stone on stage was Michelle Yeoh, last year's winner of the award, but also Jennifer Lawrence (with tears in her eyes for her dear friend), Charlize Theron, Sally Field, and Jessica Lange. In her acceptance speech, Stone thanked the challengers of the category, the director of Povere Creaure! Yorgos Lanthimos but also his entire family.
“I am greatly admired by all of you,” said the actress, addressing her rivals. Then she turned to Lanthimos and continued: “It was an honor to do all this with you and I hope we can do it forever. Thank you for this gift of a lifetime as Bella." Stone then thanked her closest loved ones, including her parents, her brother, her husband, and her daughter: “who will turn 3 in 3 days and has transformed our world into technicolor. I love you more than the whole universe."
With her victory, Stone becomes the 13th actress with two Oscars in the category of best leading actress, joining actresses of the caliber of Meryl Streep, Ingrid Bergman, and Jodie Foster; better than them only Frances McDormand with 3 Oscars for best leading actress, and Katharine Hepburn with 4. Let's remember that Emma previously won the coveted award for her role in the acclaimed La La Land (2016).
