Netflix announces an adaptation of Agatha Christie's infamous novel, to be written by controversial Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall

Netflix has announced a new television adaptation of Agatha Christie's 1929 mystery novel, The Seven Dials Mystery, and has tapped a familiar face to helm the project: former Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall. This announcement sparked some interest, especially considering Chibnall's controversial tenure at the helm of Doctor Who.

What do we know about the new Netflix adaptation of Agatha Christie?

Chibnall, known for being the head writer on Torchwood before taking over as showrunner of Doctor Who in season 11, has generated heated debate among fans of the show for his alleged political slant in his episodes. However, Netflix seems to have faith in his talent, entrusting him to write this adaptation. The project, which will bring Christie's iconic characters to the screen, will be produced by The Crown's Suzanne Mackie and Good Omens' Chris Sussman. The direction will be entrusted to Chris Sweeney, director of The Tourist. 

Regarding this new collaboration, Mackie expressed her excitement in bringing The Seven Dials Mystery to life, highlighting Chibnall's bold and ambitious vision for the series. However, despite the lack of Christie's more famous detectives, Bundle Brent is a charming, rebellious, and resourceful character, perfect for a television adaptation. Her lively and adventurous personality could add a new level of interest to the story. With Chibnall at the helm, known for introducing the first Doctor into Doctor Who history, it will be interesting to see how she takes on this new challenge and brings the mysterious world of The Seven Dials Mystery to life.
