Aamir Khan’s gearing up for Sitaare Zameen Par, hitting theaters on June 20, 2025, but he’s not exactly chilling. In a chat with News18, he spilled that he’s “constantly stressed” about whether the film will click with audiences, especially since everyone seems to be craving action flicks these days.
This one’s a spiritual sequel to his 2007 gem Taare Zameen Par. Directed by R.S. Prasanna, it’s a sports comedy-drama where Aamir plays a gruff basketball coach training a team of neurodivergent kids for a big national tournament. With Genelia Deshmukh and ten newcomers with special needs in the mix, the film’s all about heart and inclusivity.
Problem is, Aamir’s worried folks might not show up. “Everyone wants to see action,” he said, nodding to the craze for high-energy movies starring the likes of Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, or Prabhas. Sitaare’s more about feelings than fistfights, which makes it a gutsy move in today’s market.
Aamir’s feeling the heat after Laal Singh Chaddha tanked in 2022. He even thought about quitting acting, planning to pass the film to Farhan Akhtar for Hindi and Sivakarthikeyan for Tamil. But the story pulled him back, and now he’s hoping its emotional vibe will hit home with viewers.
There’s some hope, though. Fans on X think Aamir’s loyal crowd will turn out, and if families vibe with the story, word-of-mouth could carry it far. The trailer’s got humor, heart, and some solid chemistry between Aamir and Genelia, so it’s got potential to win people over.
Aamir’s also fighting to keep this one in theaters, brushing off OTT deals for now. With a nudge from Amitabh Bachchan, he’s sticking to the big screen and even putting Taare Zameen Par on his YouTube channel, Aamir Khan Talkies, for free to drum up excitement.
Can Sitaare Zameen Par break through the action frenzy and light up the box office? Aamir’s banking on its soulful story, but he’s definitely sweating it.
