Hey, Nithiin fans—I’ve got some awesome news! Thammudu, his upcoming Telugu action-drama, has locked in its OTT platform, and it’s none other than Amazon Prime Video! The announcement came out on June 11, 2025, just yesterday, and it’s got me even more excited for the movie’s theatrical release on July 25, 2025. They moved the date from July 4 to avoid clashing with Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom, which I think was a smart move.
Directed by Sriram Venu, who’s given us gems like Vakeel Saab, Thammudu is all about a brother-sister bond that’s sure to tug at your heartstrings. Nithiin plays the younger brother, while Laya, making a comeback to Telugu films, is his sister. The trailer dropped on June 11, and it looks so good! Nithiin’s character, a talented archer, heads to this village called Ambaragodugu to help his sister keep a promise, and ends up taking on some local bad guys. Sapthami Gowda, who you might know from Kantara, is making her Telugu debut opposite Nithiin, and the cast also includes Saurabh Sachdeva as the villain, plus Varsha Bollamma and Swasika in key roles. It’s produced by Dil Raju and Shirish under Sri Venkateswara Creations, and Ajaneesh Loknath’s music is already sounding amazing.
Here’s the cool part—Amazon Prime Video snagged the streaming rights, and word is they paid a pretty big amount for it! If the movie doesn’t do great in theaters, you’ll be able to stream it just 28 days after its release, so around mid-August 2025. That’s awesome for those of us who love watching from home, but it also means the film really needs to make a splash on the big screen first.
I’m rooting for Nithiin with this one—he’s had a tough run lately with films like Robinhood not hitting the mark, especially after hits like A Aa, Sye, and Bheeshma. Thammudu feels like it could be his big comeback, especially with Sriram Venu directing. The trailer’s got this great mix of family drama and action, all set in a rural village, which looks so fresh. But I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the story feels new and doesn’t fall into the usual patterns we’ve seen in Nithiin’s recent movies.
The July 25 release gives Thammudu a nice window to shine, now that it’s not going head-to-head with Kingdom. That said, Dil Raju’s last few projects haven’t been huge hits, so I’m hoping this one breaks that streak. Knowing it’ll be on Amazon Prime Video after the theater run is a nice backup, and it means more people across India can watch it. Whether you’re heading to the theater or waiting to stream it, Thammudu looks like a must-watch this summer!
