You’re probably familiar with the theory that Sadie Sink will play Jean Grey in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' and in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but according to a new rumor, Jean won’t be the only mutant to appear in the upcoming Marvel Studios film co-produced with Sony Pictures.

There are other possibilities, of course, but given the constant rumors and everything that has been revealed about Sadie Sink’s character, at this point we’d be very surprised if she didn’t turn out to be Jean Grey after all. Introducing a character so closely tied to the X-Men into a Spider-Man movie might seem like a strange move, but we still don’t know exactly what Marvel Studios has in store for the long-awaited X-Men reboot and the Mutant Saga, and since it’s been confirmed that Sadie Sink will reprise her role alongside Tom Holland in Avengers: Secret Wars, it’s possible that the new mutants will be introduced in the Russo Brothers’ film.

But assuming Sadie Sink will indeed play Jean Grey, the powerful telepath might not be the only member of the new X-Men team introduced in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. According to The Geeky Cast, in fact, “more than one mutant” will appear in the film. Although it may seem like a long shot, one possibility is Scott Summers: several online sources have dropped not-so-subtle hints about Cyclops’s possible appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, following last year’s rumors that Harris Dickinson was in the running for the role. If Scott Summers is indeed this other mutant, it’s possible he’s searching for his missing friend/girlfriend.

In any case, it should be noted that Sadie Sink’s role remains a secret for now: although she appeared briefly (more than once, if you watched closely) in the recent Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, Marvel and Sony are clearly doing their best to keep the character’s identity under wraps for as long as possible. A smart move, given that the mysterious role of the Stranger Things star is likely to remain the main topic of discussion for the upcoming standalone Spider-Man film.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 29. Avengers: Doomsday follows on December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars debuts on December 19, 2027.
