Filming is underway on the fifth and final season of the now-iconic Netflix series Stranger Things, and new set photos starring Will Byers have revealed his new haircut. Stranger Things broke ground for season 5, after several delays, in early January 2024. On Friday, one of the show's co-creators, Ross Duffer, shared the first look at Will Byers' return. The date also coincides with the character's birthday, and Duffer added: "Happy birthday Will!" in the caption on Instagram.
Stranger Things 5, Will's new haircut is a real gem!
The new set of photos reveals Will's new look next season. Since the beginning of the show, Will usually has a bowl cut, but his hair looks longer with bangs. However, the photos also hint at a possible flashback scene. The second photo shows Schnapp lying on the ground scared, with a younger actor who appears to be a younger version of Will, as he is wearing the same clothes he wore in the first season of the show. The two appear to be in Castle Byers, Will's makeshift fortress in the forest.
After Stranger Things' explosive fourth season finale, which left fans with a cliffhanger as the Upside Down seemed to creep into Hawkins, the team will continue to fight Vecna. There aren't many details about the next season, as the plot is kept secret, but it is confirmed that it will be the last. The show will have a definitive ending, with no plans for a sixth season. Much of the main cast is expected to return, including Noah Schnapp, who plays Will. The actor found himself at the center of a controversy following his comments in support of Israel, with some fans even vowing to boycott the show if his character wasn't killed off. From the photos, it looks like Will will continue to be a big part of the story. However, the fifth season of Stranger Things may surprise fans.
Even though filming began more than two months ago, there's still a long way to go before season five finishes filming, which means anything can happen. Millie Bobby Brown, who plays lead character Undi on the show, recently revealed during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show that filming will continue for another nine months. She refused to reveal crucial details. Speaking about Unsi's future, Brown admitted: “I know what happens to my character. I haven't read the script because I'm in the writing process. I think I read until episode 6. I know what happens to my character.” The final season of Stranger Things doesn't have a set release date yet, but the first four seasons are currently available to stream on Netflix.
